New Smyrna Beach.

A historic town with a surf-town soul

New Smyrna Beach is the southern anchor of Volusia's beach towns: a place founded as a colony in 1768 that today is known for laid-back surfing, Flagler Avenue shops, and some of the region's most charming coastal living.

The town stretches between the Atlantic and the Indian River Lagoon, with old Florida character in the core and canals and waterfront throughout. Turtle Mound, a shell mound built by the Timucua people, marks the southern edge of the county's protected coast.

Buyers come for the surf and the small-town pace, and for a beach life that feels less commercial than its neighbors to the north.
